'Here to encourage and support Longdraw spinning...'
The Guild of Longdraw Spinners was established in February 2007. It is affiliated to the Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. The Guild meets on the first Saturday of each month. The July 2007 meeting took place at Woolfest when the Guild made its first public appearance. The annual meeting takes place in June. All other meetings take place in Stock Albany Village Hall in Leicester and involve speakers, skill-sharing and visits. For those who cannot attend meetings, the Guild website offers networking, notice board and communications, telephone support and resources. It is hoped that all (online and geographic) members will be able to meet at an annual Guild Reception commencing at Woolfest 2008. Membership is £10 per year. To join simply use the form mentioned below. No previous experience is necessary - but enthusiasm is essential.
Many of the Guild members have been taught by Chair, Pam Austin, and only learned longdraw spinning within the last two years. Pam Austin was professionally taught to spin longdraw by Elizabeth and Malcolm Palmer in the early 1980s. The Palmers' enduring high standards of tuition have become the benchmarks of today's Guild. Pam Austin is an enthusiastic teacher and is based in Leicestershire.
