Welcome

Welcome to the Guild of Long Draw Spinners for busy people who want to spin beautiful yarn.

Our purpose is to encourage and support the skill of long draw spinning and associated activities. No previous experience necessary - but enthusiasm is essential!

We are a non-profit making organisation, willing to teach long draw spinning to anyone who is able to attend our regular monthly meetings which are held in Leicestershire. We also attend “woolly” gatherings around the country to share our skills.

COMING UP - 2014

2nd November
Our November meeting is our annual Celebration of Spinning and we hope as many members as possible will be able to manage to come along (and possibly bring a friend or two?). Following a lot of discussion at our AGM we have decided to run with our Weaving Challenge, albeit on a slightly simpler format than previously considered. For those who couldn’t make the AGM, we often say that it took 6 spinners to keep a weaver busy and so we have decided to test this theory by preparing, carding, spinning(ideally longdraw!) and weaving as much fabric as possible during the course of the day. We will be using an Ashford Knitter’s Loom and everyone will have the opportunity to contribute to the spinning and weaving process.

Of course Catherine will be with us and anyone who hasn’t yet had an opportunity to spin on her will have the chance to do so – hopefully some of us will also have the chance to practice (or ‘improve’) our demonstration skills. We are always asking for more people to help with demonstrating and this is an ideal time to have a go!

6th December
Our December meeting will be our Christmas Sparkle Inspiration/Skills Sharing Day together with our annual Christmas Lunch, so do come prepared with expanding waistbands!

Our programme for the first quarter of 2015 will be as follows:

January – Inspiration/Skill Share Day

We are having a presence at the Waltham Abbey Wool Show on 18th January 2015, Marriott Hotel: volunteers are needed please!

February - Pillow Lace with wool

March - Weaving Workshop with Sally Watts

April – Long Draw refresher
Please note that as the 1st Saturday coincides with Easter weekend we will have our meeting on 11th April not the 4th
